De Heart, Shahin

As a child, I used to lie mainly on my back, looking at the stucco ornamentation. The sparrows on the corner pillars appealed to me especially. I counted the birds in the stucco work together with those in pattern on the carpets. Or I lay on my stomach and looked out through the window into the garden and over to the other side of our atrium house.

Our central hall was on the first floor. I used to gaze through this pane or that, as the fancy took me. Sometimes I saw everything red, or blue, sometimes green. The world revealed itself to me in color. I believe that this was what awakened my interest in colors and painting at a very early age.”
