Charlie Hawksfield is a self-taught artist, living and working in rural West Sussex. He graduated with a first in Cultural Studies from Goldsmiths University where he became aware of theorists such as Saussure and Foucault, who would become integral to his work. Using imagery from a variety of sources such as the tabloid press, Film Noir, glossy magazines and Victorian paintings, Hawksfield creates narrative collages inspired by folklore and history
I now have two new up-and-running websites.
Firstly www.charliehawksfield.com is a selection of contemporary painting
This work is figurative, but moving increasingly to a looser style. I have been experimenting with emulsion, spray paint, wood stain, tar and varnish on the canvas. The work explores British History and Mythology, from Scott of the Antarctic to King Arthur and Herne the Hunter. I am concerned with the formation of the British (especially English) Archetype.
Secondly I have just launched http://www.charliehawksfieldportraits.com/ which is a selections of commissions I have completed for various clients including MP Nicolas Soames. They are all portraits of pets and people and prices can be found on the site.
I was also featured on the Ashurst Emerging Art Prize website which is very exciting. Winners are announced later this year.
I have a new commission from Polo professional Richard Le Poer courtesy of the C and H ball auction. I will also be at the Parham Point to Point on the 12th March with the very talented Tilly Berendt selling our wares. In the meantime I am looking to take on more work going into the Spring, so please get in touch if you have any interest or questions.
